Stand for America

This is an especially appropriate story for the problems our Country is now facing.

Years ago a relative of mine was graduating from college. She was interviewed by companies that came to hire the graduating class for their businesses. This was a normal thing at the time. Kay interviewed with several companies and chose to work for a large manufacturer of digital electronics.

She was assigned a job in the marketing department doing inventory, sales, and related charts. One day Kay was asked to handle a large mail-out for the purpose of gathering information about certain products. It was to be a survey of how customers felt about the company and its products.

When the results of the survey came in Kay typed them into a computer program so they would be available to the company executives.

Kay presented the results of the survey to her supervisor. But her boss was displeased with the survey thinking it too “negative” to show the executives. She asked Kay to change the survey to make it more positive saying: “I can’t show this to my boss, He won’t like it,”

Kay declined to change the survey even when threatened. So Kay was fired for not being dishonest and changing the survey. I found out about it a week later and I told Kay how proud of her I felt. It took courage and confidence to do what was honest and right.

Kay went on to find a job she really likes and pays her well. She has no regrets.

When a person takes a solemn oath of office and is later pressured to violate that oath. That person stands at the crossroads of statesmanship and hypocrisy. To do the right thing or cave to pressure. If they cave they’re not worthy of their office.

Always Remember

I get emotional when thinking about this great country of ours. A country of law and equality for all people. America has always been great and will continue to be as long as its people stand up for its guiding principles. The Constitution, Bill of Rights, and division of power has served us well over the years.

I grew up during WWII. It was different then. People were kinder and more united in winning. Everyone worked in the war effort. On coming home from school I got out my little red wagon and walked the neighborhood collecting newspaper, scrap metal, rubber bands, anything that could be recycled. Many children helped in this way.

Income taxes were high, as much as 80 to 90 percent on the very rich. I heard no complaints, our country was focused and united. Factories ran 24/7 and my dad was the lead machinist in one of them. He would work 10 hours and then get called back at 3am to help with problems. He didn’t complain, he loved this country.

Now, we don’t need another war to unite us. We just need to remember our roots, and what the founding fathers wanted for us. Greed is out-of-control. Some think they are entitled more than others.

But, I am betting there are still plenty people of faith and love of country to unite us under the principles of constitutional law that made and keeps America great. Pray for our country.
