Grandpapa

Took Grandpa to Las Vegas,
He had never been before.
Introduced him to a slot,
but soon he wanted more.

He saw a change machine,
I thought he needed coins.
Came back an hour later,
he still was changing coins.

At time to leave he told me,
he’d played with misgiving,
that same machine all night,
and figured he’d broke even.

Feeding Fish

I go to the fountain to feed the fish
every morning, and when the goldfish
see me their activity increases in
contemplation of being fed.

Their fixed eyes seem to look up
at me, but I wonder if I am recognized.
Would they know me from another
or are they merely reacting to the
change of light above their small pond.

I would like to believe they know me from
others who may pass by, and understand
it’s I that feeds, and cares for them.

Wonder if God feels that way as He
looks kindly upon us, and loves us.

The Monarch

Gossamer wings, fluttering past,
turning my head, moving so fast,
slightly churning, spatting the air,
fluttering on, without a care.

A thousand miles, a thousand more,
swiftly flying from shore to shore.
Bright tiny wings, cover vast space
brown golden hues, moving with grace.

Never tire, nor energy pall,
course aligned, answering the call.
Winter is nigh, summer retreats,
cycle of life, is now complete.

Mister Preacher Man

Dear Mister Preacher man
don’t teach my children fear.
Sermons of hellish fire,
What is this farce I hear?

You say God is jealous,
So angry, to condemn
His own precious children
to burn in hell for sin.

You did not heed the One
that set the teaching true.
God’s one and only Son,
the gift He gave to you.

Why worship now His death
by ignorant, maddened throng,
discarding His sweet words
that taught us right from wrong?

He asked you to Love God
with your heart, mind and soul,
and to love one another,
now that should be your goal.

Love your enemies, doing
good to them that wrong.
Go pace that second mile,
give love as you walk along.

Give service unto others
so you be fully blessed.
Help the poor, the homeless,
walk the path He professed.

Forgive those that harm you,
do not judge nor condemn.
Treat others as you would like
to be treated by them.

Now Mister Preacher man
what don’t you understand.
The Son said: “teach love” to
each woman, child, and man.

Please Mister Preacher man
don’t teach my children fear.
Give them the words of love,
that they may hold them dear.
