When the near death experiencer returns to his body, and recovers from whatever trauma caused his near death experience his perception of life is changed forever. The change is for the good of the individual. Atheists and agnostics become believers, not in religion, but in spirituality. It is now understood that life continues after the death of the body.
If there were some way to safely induce NDEs, we could change the world, in just a few years, from fear and violence, to love and compassion. It would truly be heaven on earth. But NDEs can not be induced, they happen only after the body and brain are clinically dead.
The near death experience heals not only the state of mind, it also heals the state of the body. Doctors have wondered many times how people could recover from such severe injuries and illnesses, after they were clinically dead. It was the healing experience, the touching of the Light that brought health back. I was told I had only about six months to live when I refused surgery for a heart condition. My near death experience returned me to perfect health, not instantly, but in 18 months. My doctor was astounded by my full recover.
The changed life is caused by a new perception that results from an expansion of consciousness. There is now a much larger picture of the world to consider, one that includes both physical and spiritual dimensions. An experiencer loses the desire for material wealth, the goal now is to improve spiritually and to help others in the process. Narrow personal goals just don’t matter anymore. Old beliefs taught in childhood are no longer held true. Actually, most previous beliefs, and perspectives taught in religion, and science of the world at large are no longer considered valid. There is a shift from believing to experience.
The desire is to learn through experience. To learn to love yourself and all others. To show kindness, caring, and compassion to everyone. In the beginning it is not easy to do, much practice is needed, and it is a long path filled with bumps and shallows. The near death experience has clearly shown the benefits of love, and the experience has taken away the fear of dying. Death does not exist, and to not fear death means to not fear life either. There is a sense of freedom and peace not known before. A joy of living a good physical life.
Most near death experiencers are so excited and motivated by their experience they want to tell everyone about it. However, they quickly found many individuals were frightened or threatened by the telling of their experience. So they learn to “keep quite” about what they had seen and heard during the time they were clinically dead. Not so much now, but over 20 years ago it was difficult to find someone to talk to about the experience. There was a tendency to believe the experience was just an hallucination, or dream. Today, people are more open to the experience having read about it or viewed it in the media.
It still takes considerable time for an experiencer to assimulate and fully understand what just happened to them. It took me over three years to come to grips with my experience and to feel comfortable living in the physical world. I made contact with some other experiencers and we formed a group that proved mutually beneficial.
Still today, after 30 years of clear, solid near death experience research, there are those who wrongly believe the near death experience is just an hallucination. I believe this is due mainly to the misinformation taught by science that there exists only the physical dimension, and anything else is nonsense. Of course science has no proof of this teaching.
The quote below was taken from the “Near Death After Effects” of this site. I believe the list to be an accurate description of the results of a near death experience.
–Strong decrease or complete loss of the fear of death as the result of their NDEs.
–Believe that there is life after death.
–NDErs, including suicide attempters do not generally attempt to take their lives again.
–Spiritual growth, a loving attitude, knowing a Higher Power/God, inner peace and a sense of purpose in life characterize the changes most meaningful to NDErs.
–Strong increase in their concern for others, and that life has meaning or purpose.
–Increase in psychic phenomena or healing abilities following their NDEs.
–Greater ecological sensitivity and planetary concern.
–Increased physical sensitivity, diminished tolerance to light, alcohol and drugs.
–The average NDEr comes to regard him or herself as “an immortal soul currently resident within a material form so lessons can be learned while sojourning in the earthplane.”
–A feeling that the brain has been “altered” to encompass “more”, and a feeling that one is now using the “whole brain” rather than just a small part.
–Energy surges up and down the body happen to many, and can be accompanied by “lights” in the air. Researchers usually regard this as the release of “kundalini” (a Sanskrit term meaning “coiled energy at the base of the spine”).
–Electrical sensitivity refers to a condition whereby the forcefield or energy around an individual affects nearby electrical equipment and technological devices.

In a near death experience after the person has entered the Light, he may notice “Beings of Light” coming towards him. Some experiencers see only one Light Being while others may see large numbers of them. These Light Beings are individuals living in the spirit realms. The experiencer may recognize some of them as deceased loved ones or relatives. While others will be perceived as high spiritual Beings such as Jesus, Allah, Buddha, etc. Each near death experience is unique to the individual having the experience. No two are exactly alike, but all have similar characteristics.
There are several different levels of interaction between the experiencer and the Light Beings. The experiencer may meet his deceased relatives and loved ones with hugs, even his deceased pets may be present. There will be conversation, and some of the conversation may be verified upon the return to physical life by the experiencer. There are NDE accounts were a deceased relative revealed where he had hidden his Last Will, or a sum of money, or other valuables, and upon returning to physical life the experiencer was able to find these items where his deceased relative said they would be. Sometimes the experiencer will meet deceased relatives unknown to him, and upon returning able to verify they were indeed relatives previously unknown to him.
The experiencer’s interaction with the Light Beings perceived as some religious figure can be manyfold. The perceived religious Light Being may tell the experiencer he must go back to his body. That it is not time for him to enter the spirit world. That he still has much to do and learn before his physical life is over. Usually this starts an argument, the experiencer does not want to go back to his body, and continue physical life. But with a gentle nudge, or push the experiencer is forced back into his body.
The experiencer may be “shown around” the spiritual world. Here there are accounts of seeing “The Park”, and the “Crystal City” behind it, where museums, libraries, schools, and residences can be seen. This event may be most any type of scenery, but the Park, and the Crystal City are the most common.
Now the experiencer may go through a “Life Review” where his whole physical life passes before him in a critique. Here he can determine how well he lived the physical life, and what he learned from it.
Then some experiencers are shown the future of their physical lives, and the future the world will take on some events. A young girl may be shown her future children, and who she will marry. Upon returning the experiencer watches these events come to past. One experiencer said it’s like living your life twice.
The interactions with the preceived religious Light Beings can be anything and everything. Each experience is unique. I suggest the reading of near death experiences to better understand them. There are literally thousands of them posted on the Internet. I have over 300 hundred of them on my web site.

In the typical near death experience, right after becoming aware of being out of body and floating around, a light appears far off down a tunnel. The experiencer begins to gravitate towards that light, enter the tunnel and start going faster and faster toward the light. In the tunnel may be seen others going toward the light also.
The Light is very bright, but doesn’t hurt the eyes to look upon it. Entering the Light the experiencer is surrounded, permeated by the golden Light. The Light has substance, texture, and as it envelopes the experiencer love, caring, and compassion are felt. Total love, unconditional love is heaped upon the experiencer along with total acceptance. The experiencer feels at home, the place he has always belonged, and never wants to leave again.
Questions begin to flow from the experiencer: “Where am I; What am I doing here; Am I dead; Is this heaven; Where is God?” All these questions are immediately answered in a consciousness to consciousness transfer, to ask is to receive. As each question is asked, it is answered, the knowledge of the whole universe, and its full meaning are available. Huge amounts of knowledge pass from the Light to the experiencer. This is the enlightment part of the near death experience. However, when the experiencer returns to his physical body, not all of the knowledge given can be brought back with him. The physical dimension doesn’t have the language, nor the concepts to explain all of what the experiencer learned in the spiritual dimension. But while all is not remembered there is enough retained to change the experiencer’s life forever. His perception of physical life will never be the same again.
Some believe the Light is God, and some don’t. There is a realization that the Light contains everything, all consciousness including themselves, all energy, everything that exists, in both spiritual and physical dimensions. It is All-That-Is, and some call the Light by that name. Some call it the Oneness of all things in which they are a part.
Next, the experiencer will notice “Beings of Light”, coming toward him.

The typical near death experience starts with going out of body. If this happens in an emergency room on the operating table the patient experiences himself above his body floating near the ceiling of the room. If he is in a car wreck he will be floating above the wreck observing all the activity going on below. The location doesn’t matter.
While out-of-body the experiencer will be able to observe all the activity below and around him. This is usually a great surprise to the experiencer and he tries to contact people around him, but soon finds they can neither see nor hear him. It is at this point the experiencer realizes he is dead. Dead yet fully alive with all the faculties of his consciousness intact.
This is no dream, illusion, or hallucination, we know that it is real due to the years of research done, and still being done, on near death experiences. While science can’t measure the out-of-body sequence because it is a personal experience, they can measure the accuracy of the observations of an experiencer while he is out of body. This has been done hundreds of time. These experiences are called veridical near death experiences. They are experiences that have been verified by attending surgeons and staff.
In a veridical near death experience, the patient dies on the operating table, and goes out of body. While out of body the patient observes the doctors frantically working on his now dead body in an attempt to bring it back to life. While this is going on the out-of-body patient observes the doctor’s and staff’s behaviour, and hears every word the doctor and staff say. He may even notice unusual things like someone knocking over a stool or dropping an instrument. When he is brought back to life, he re-enters his body, opens his eyes, and tells the doctor what just happened to him, and describes what he saw while out of body. The doctors and staff verify as accurate his description of what happened while he was clinically dead. This accuracy verification is what makes the experience a veridical near death experience.
These veridical NDEs were responsible for starting the research into near death experiences. More than one surgeon gave up his surgical career to devote full time to researching near death experiences. Now after over 30 years of research at dozens of universities with hundreds of doctors participating, the evidence clearly shows that our consciousness will survive the death of our bodies. We are spiritual people inhabiting a physical body, and that we do not die.
I will show some links below to much of this research for those interested in reading more about this subject.
