Words of Wisdom

Good advice can come from anywhere. Any person, even children. This advice is universal for everyone living on the planet. It is not the produce of a religion or social norm, it is the basis of living a good life.

Rediscovering

Gloomy clouds of desperation
billow through a bungled past.
Failed probabilities mangled
from a question left unasked.

Guilt straddles the back of heroes,
distraught over what might have been.
Anxiety contorts the soul,
what was, will never be again.

Hiding deep within the darkness,
cloaked with eons of denial.
A glimmer of serenity
whispers, madness is not final.

The grim prevailing ambiance
is not what it appears to be,
within it exists wisdom that
validates immortality.

What seems solid is but vapor
swirling about an Honesty.
A light long dimmed by fearfulness
and beaded with apostasy.

Press bravely through the inner mist.
Reclaim a wisdom known before.
Light of unconditional love,
resides within forever more.

My Bookstore

Walking into a well-known book store,
it was the first time I really saw,
the huge variety of books there,
I could only look at them in awe.

Usually went straight up to the shelf
that held all the books of my liking.
This day was different, a special
search for something stunningly striking.

I pondered the thousands of writers,
who wrote the thousands of books
whose thoughts were to me unknown
upon pages I could never look.

A wealth of history and knowledge,
in reach of anyone with cost.
Technical, stories of fiction,
how life’s fortunes are won and lost.

The wisdom of ages selling
for discounted prices, quite frail.
The sign on the front window said
“A going out of business sale.”

Simply Aware

A Master teacher wished to illustrate levels of awareness on the path to wisdom. He took five students to the edge of a lush, green forest and asked: “What do you see?”

The first student replied: “I see a lush, green forest.”

The second stated: “Yes, I see the forest, and many kinds of trees. I see at least seven varieties, may I study them?”

The third remarked: “The trees are beautiful, and I observe many kinds of wildlife. I see animals and birds, may I learn from them?”

The fourth said: “I see a symphony of life, the perfect ecosystem. Each plant and animal giving, and taking; cooperating to fulfill each others needs; sustaining harmonic balance. It’s a wondrous sight, may I sit and enjoy?”

The fifth, tears in his eyes, whispered softly: “I feel the Maker.”
