--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a common statement I read concerning NDE's...
"I can find absolutely no evidence to indicate the NDE is not brain related"
It's pretty easy to say this while turning a blind eye to a great deal of
research. And until this great deal of research can be adequately and
completely rebutted, statements like these are completely erroneous and silly.
Even the hardcore skeptic should at least concede and change the statement to something more logical. Such as:
"While there is supposed evidence which indicates the transcendent nature of the NDE, I firmly believe there will be proper explanations in the future which will reduce the spiritual notions to physical ones" ... There, that makes a little more sense, doesn't it? Because ignoring chapters of research with swift brushstrokes is nothing short of bad science.
Anyway, if you want to do a little basic research, go to
http://www.near-death.com and look at the column "Scientific Evidence of Survival" .. Check out the links, here is the menu copy & pasted:
NDE occurred while brain dead (Pam Reynolds)
Verified perception during NDEs (Raymond Moody)
The blind can see during NDE (Vicki Umipeg)
Unbiased children have NDEs (PMH Atwater)
NDErs are dramatically changed (PMH Atwater)
Common aspects found in NDEs (PMH Atwater)
Scientific discoveries are brought back (Kenneth Ring)
NDErs are convinced it happened (Kevin Williams)
Groups of people share a NDE (Raymond Moody)
Some are dead for days (George Rodonaia)
They successfully foresee the future (Dannion Brinkley)
NDE testimony is ancient (Plato)
Scientific studies support them (News sources)
Ancient religions agree with NDEs (Book of the Dead)
Consciousness studies support autoscopy (Charles Tart)
Quantum physics supports NDE concepts (T. Lee Baumann)
Psychology supports NDE concepts (Carl Jung)
Regression supports life after death (Michael Newton)
Dream research validates survival (Claire Sylvia)
After-death communications are reported (Bill Guggenheim)
Synchronicity supports survival (Kevin Williams)
Hypnosis induces NDEs (Allan Botkin)
Deathbed visions support survival (Carla Brandon)
Out-of-body experiences are possible (Jerry Gross)
Angel visitations are reported (Sarah Powell)
And just because some of the evidence is not empirical or reproducible in a laboratory does not mean that it's invalid... Let's remember courtroom logic too, anecdotal and testimonial evidence is not something that should be simply dismissed.
Sure, a few of the above subjects are sketchy and don't really prove anything, but don't focus on just the weak arguments, let's see a full fledged rebuttal of each one. Including the hardballs like autoscopy, provided with solid facts and logical hypotheses.
